Prof. Chris Oliver, CBE.

After obtaining his PhD in Nuclear Physics at Liverpool University, Chris Oliver joined the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment (RSRE), Malvern (later the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), and now QinetiQ), where he had a distinguished research career, recognised by the award of the CBE for services to SAR.

He has published several patents and over 100 papers on SAR image formation and image interpretation. He headed the group which in the 1990s developed  the widely used CAESAR SAR image understanding library, and was co-author with Prof Shaun Quegan, Sheffield University, of the  standard text in this subject: 'Understanding Synthetic Aperture Radar Images' commissioned by Artech House.

He is now Chairman and Technical Director of InfoSAR Ltd, aiming to make SAR expertise and techniques available to the remote sensing community.
