Chris Oliver, CBE.
After obtaining his PhD in Nuclear Physics at Liverpool University,
Chris Oliver joined the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment (RSRE),
Malvern (later the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), and now
QinetiQ), where he had a distinguished research career, recognised by the
award of the CBE for services to SAR.
He has published several patents and over 100 papers on SAR image
formation and image interpretation. He headed the group which in the 1990s
developed the widely used CAESAR SAR image understanding library,
and was co-author with Prof Shaun Quegan, Sheffield University, of
the standard text in this subject: 'Understanding Synthetic Aperture
Radar Images' commissioned by Artech House.
He is now Chairman and Technical Director of InfoSAR Ltd, aiming to
make SAR expertise and techniques available to the remote sensing
community.
